Mini Keyboard

The Mini Keyboard from Solidtek offers a very narrow footprint of just 11.3" that serves well where space is extremely limited or where the reach to the mouse needs to be significantly reduced. It achieves this by eliminating the traditional numeric keypad and replacing it with an embedded numeric keypad with legends clearly marked on the front face of the keycaps. This embedded keypad is located in the right half of the keyboard, with function accessed via the FN key. To make the keyboard even more compact, only the alpha-numeric keys are full-size and standard 19.4 mm spacing. The remainder of the keys are significantly narrower, with just 14 mm spacing which can make accurate targeting more difficult, especially for those with larger fingers.

The Mini Keyboard employs membrane keyswitches with a shorter-than-average travel distance (3 mm instead of the standard 4 mm) and has a somewhat pronounced positive incline (i.e. it is higher at the back than at the front), in spite of the comparatively low profile it presents. In general, a neutral (flat), or negative incline is advisable for those experiencing pain in the backs of the hands, wrists, or forearms. A low cushion such as the SAMA Palm Support can be used to help offset some of the positive incline.

The Mini Keyboard is available in models with the standard US English layout as well as a unilingual French Canadian legended version (note that this is NOT bilingual).

If you still wish to have a separate numeric keypad for occasional use the USB Scissor-Switch Membrane Numeric Keypad is a very economical add-on accessory.

• Compact: The compact size of the Mini Keyboard makes it ideal for smaller spaces. In order to achieve this compactness, the dedicated number pad has been eliminated (replaced by the embedded keypad) and many of the lesser used keys have been reduced in size.
• Embedded Numeric Keypad: The Mini Keyboard achieves its compact size due to the elimination of an integrated numeric keypad on the left or right hand side. • If you have larger hands you may wish to consider a different keyboard as the reduced widths of most of the secondary keys may make targeting of these keys difficult. There are numerous keyboards that are "compact" but that retain full-size keys throughout.
• This compact keyboard will work equally well for you whether you position your mouse on the right or left sides. The narrow footprint should aid you in reducing your reach on either side. If you feel that you still need a wrist support of some sort you may want to consider adding the low profile SAMA Palm Support. At just 0.5" in thickness and just 12" wide the SAMA will support the palms for a comfortable neutral alignment of the wrists.
• Familiarize yourself with the embedded numeric keypad. If your work requires occasional periods of more intense numeric entry using the numeric keypad may prove to be convenient. If the embedded numeric keypad does not meet your requirements consider adding one of the external numeric keypad options available as accessories.
