Most truly effective anti-fatigue mats consist of dense but highly compressible foam that is ideally suited to standing. These mats are too soft for a chair to roll over since the wheels will sink into the mat. These mats usually require workers to reach down and move the mat by hand, bending and twisting at the waist and hips to do so. For those with pre-existing back problems, who may well have chosen to stand while working to address those very problems, this type of motion raises serious concerns.
The SmartMats from OIC Innovations address this injury risk by transferring mat repositioning to the feet and eliminating both bending and twisting. By pressing down lightly with one foot on the Activation Pad located at the front of the Sit-Stand SmartMat, the non-slip backing lifts free of the floor, permitting the mat to be easily slid - from a standing position. Those who switch frequently between seated and standing work positions, or who need to reposition the mat often, will find this ease of transition a vast improvement over traditional anti-fatigue mats.
The Sit-Stand SmartMat for Hard Surfaces is a new model of the Sit-Stand SmartMat, designed solely for use on hard-surfaced flooring. Rethought from the floor up, the Sit-Stand SmartMat for Hard Surfaces is now comprised of 0.75" thick polyurethane foam sealed under a tough polyurethane top. The polyurethane foam core offers a significant improvement in cushioning over earlier SmartMat versions, providing a "spring-like" response and making standing on this mat an even more pleasurable experience. Movement of the mat is still easily accomplished with a light touch of a foot to the "activation point", with the underside securely gripping the floor as soon as weight is transferred to any other part of the mat. 18° bevelled edges ensure safety and a smooth transition between the floor and mat surfaces. The large 20" x 32" surface provides plenty of space for engaging in movement without moving off the cushioned surface.

- Sliding the Mat Out of the Way: Step off the mat and lightly place the ball of one foot directly on top of the Activation Pad. Press down slightly on the Activation Pad to release the non-slip grip. With the Activation Pad slightly depressed, slide the mat out of the way with the foot.
- Retrieving the Mat: Lightly place the ball of one foot directly on top of the Activation Pad and press down slightly to release the non-slip grip. With the Activation Pad slightly depressed, slide the mat into position with the foot.
- Cleaning is easily accomplished by simply washing the sealed surface. The mat should not be submerged in water as the underside is porous and will absorb liquid.
- Maintaining the Surface of the Mat: Stiletto heels are not recommended as these may damage the surface of the mat. Removing the Activation Pad will eliminate the benefits of being able to reposition the mat from a standing position.
