The Pro Fit Ergo Vertical Wired Trackball from Kensington offers thumb-operated cursor control that eliminates the traditional arm and hand movement required with a traditional mouse. It also moves the hand and forearm away from a prone position by angling the hand outward at 60°. The 34 mm trackball offers silky-smooth movement with adjustable optical tracking from 400-800 DPI. The contoured body provides a support for the hand, naturally positioning the fingers over the right and left buttons. Side scrolling function is provided by a tilting scroll wheel that features crisp detents, conveniently positioned between these buttons to complete the traditional mouse control layout. The index finger has easy access to convenient Back and Forward Buttons for browsing through multiple pages of a document or web page. The Pro Fit Ergo Vertical Wired Trackball has a hardwired connection that ensures reliable signal for both clicking and cursor control.
As the Pro Fit Ergo Vertical Wired Trackball places the workload fully upon the thumb, (which on most other trackballs is generally shared by several fingers), anyone who has existing thumb issues would be well-advised to consider alternative solutions.
For those who prefer the freedom of a wireless device this trackball is also available as the Pro Fit Ergo Vertical Wireless Trackball. | Ergonomic Benefits |

Reduces Strain on Arm, Elbow and Shoulder Muscles Because the Pro Fit Ergo Vertical Wired Trackball does not need to move, the repetitive movements of the arm and shoulder associated with heavy mouse usage are greatly reduced. This in turn reduces the potential for injury and inflammation in these muscle groups. The housing of a trackball can also be angled in any direction, allowing each individual to position their elbow, wrist and hand in a straight line, and to limit ulnar and radial deviation. Learn More About Ulnar Deviation.
Reduces Strain on the Hand, Wrist and Arm Trackballs effectively counter the tendency to grip the pointing device too hard, a grip that can cause pain and injury to the muscles and soft tissues in the back of the hand and in the wrist and forearm. The Pro Fit Ergo Vertical Wired Trackball, by requiring a simple spinning motion accomplished with the thumb, largely eliminates static grip. Learn More About Static Grip Force.
Ergonomic Support The Pro Fit Ergo Vertical Wired Trackball features a contoured shape which provides a natural, relaxing support for the hand.
Reduces Reach for Buttons Left and right buttons as well as the scroll wheel are positioned for access by the same fingers used on a traditional mouse. The fingers are actually able to relax against the buttons, helping to avoid the development of Trigger Finger. Software to customize the button functions is available from Kensington. Learn more about Trigger Finger.
Can Be Used In Locations Where a Mouse Cannot Because trackballs do not require a "mousing surface" in order to generate cursor control they can be used as easily on the arm of a couch as on the desk, or wherever else is found to be convenient and comfortable.
Lightweight Ball The 34 mm trackball on the Pro Fit Ergo Vertical Wired Trackball is light and features a silky, smooth movement, minimizing the effort required to achieve fine cursor control.

- USB-A Wired Connection: The USB-A connection eliminates the potential for wireless drop - ensuring consistent cursor and click control.
- Precision Optical Tracking Technology: The adjustable sensor offers settings ranging from 400 - 800 DPI. Changing DPI is done via a thumb button.
- 34 mm Trackball: The 34 mm ball offer smooth and accurate cursor control, with minimal resistance. While the low force required reduces the risk of straining the thumb, individuals should be aware that as with any other device the risk of developing RSI is present.

| Usage Tips |
---|
- Since all cursor movement is accomplished by the thumb you should be vigilant and take notice if any pain begins to develop. Should this occur it would be wise to immediately reduce the usage or change to a device that does not require thumb movement. Most people are quite aware of carpal tunnel and often shift to trackballs as an alternative to address existing RSI issues or as a precautionary measure. However, most are not aware of the danger which can exist from overuse of the thumb. De Quervain Syndrome or De Quervain's Tenosynovitis can be as painful and debilitating as the other more commonly known RSI.
Learn more about De Quervain's Tenosynovitis. - If you are new to a trackball expect that it will take a while to get accustomed to the different style of control. It is also a good idea to limit the amount of time you use it in the first while. Rather, build up to longer periods of usage by interchanging with a different mousing device or by Load Balancing (see next point).
- Load Balance Your Use: Since the Pro Fit Ergo Vertical Wired Trackball is a dedicated right hand mousing device it cannot be switched between hands. For this reason it is a good idea to have an alternate mousing device either for either the left or right hand which can be used to give the thumb a break from continuous usage.
- Take regular breaks. If you find that you are experiencing discomfort in your thumb, especially in the learning stages - that is a good sign that you may want to take a break by switching to a different device or by swapping to the other hand. As with any device, make an effort to regularly change your usage, take breaks, and perform stretches. Some find that the fingers can benefit from occasionally flexing them through a full range of movement, both extending and contracting them fully.
